EDUCATION FOUNDATION FALL SEMINAR - 8 HOURS C.E.
GOLF TOURNAMENT SPEAKER: JERRY MAHUN, PLS
                    OCTOBER 22nd October 21st - Mesquite, NV

               All proceeds will be used
to fund scholarships for Property Description Interpretation - How Hard can it be?
land surveying students. Almost anyone can write a property description, but it’s up to a
surveyor to interpret and locate it on the ground. What if physical
evidence doesn’t coincide with the written description? What if the
terms are unclear or ambiguous? Most problems occur because
a description writer does not understand the legal principles
which guide a surveyor’s description interpretation and conflicting
evidence resolution. Wording which may appear clear to the writer
can cause no end of problems later.
The morning session will cover primary legal principles surveyors use to help determine original intent
and resolve conflicting written and physical evidence. Descriptions from recently recorded deeds will be
examined to determine if their intent is clear or ambiguous.

                 Boundary Issues Case Studies
The afternoon seminar will begin with a brief legal background introduction and a few boundary examples.
Attendees will be divided into small groups and provided case studies to consider. Each group will discuss
their cases, identifying issues and conflicts, how to resolve them, then present their results. The seminar
is not intended as a consulting session but as a way to share participants’ perspectives, opinions, and
experiences. Attendees are encouraged to submit “unique” descriptions they have encountered for the
morning session and/or possible case study materials for the afternoon session. Information can be sent
                 to jerry.mahun@gmail.com.
