After some arm-twisting I reluctantly took on the task of carrying
the Traverse forward and for five years I tried to make sure that
each issue passed the ‘Terry test’ for content and relevance, and
had at least a dollop of tradition. I failed a few times, but on those
occasions when I succeeded, I would get an encouraging email from
Terry and that meant a lot to me. Even now, Terry is the Traverse.
        From Raymond R. Hébert, PLS
Terry was so modest and very rarely talked about himself. He was
the Editor for the Nevada Traverse for god knows how long but he
was always succinct in his presentations, writings and discussions.
An ultimate professional. As the President of both Local and
State Chapters he was the timely, concerned about budgets and
fastidious about content and syntax. He has a special way about
him, a smile ever present and the need to get at the heart of any
        researched discussion.
        From George Lindesmith, PLS
I first met Terry through the Nevada Association of Land Surveyors,
probably in the late 1970’s or early 1980’s. Terry was always active
        with NALS.

Terry was the City of Reno surveyor when I became licensed and
was always a source of information relative to surveying in Reno.
He had mapping and notes that helped with the relocation of
street centerline monuments that had been set by city surveyors
in the 1950’s. This information was quite useful in the relocation
of these monuments that had been removed. He had his survey
crews set reference monuments to help with this relocation when
monuments were likely to be destroyed.
Terry also was responsible for running good differential levels that
tied the city’s several different level loops together into one system
and then publishing the data for all to use.

Terry was always finding ways to improve surveying in Reno, but
I think his largest contribution to the profession went far beyond
that when he became Editor of the “Nevada Traverse”. He kept
himself very well informed of everything going on of a survey nature
nationwide and shared that information with all of through the
“Traverse”. The “Traverse” became a nationally known and respected
publication because of his diligent work and dedication.
Terry was the surveyor that we all should aspire to be.

        From Dorothy Calegari
Among those who have contributed significantly to the Nevada
Association of Land Surveyors (NALS), the land surveying
profession, and its professional development, Terry McHenry
stands among the best. I have known Terry since the mid-1980s
when I was contacted by the NALS Board of Directors to provide
management services to the Association. I served with Terry on
the Board of Directors and other related activities for a number of
years. I always enjoyed working with Terry as he was the ultimate
professional, always provided valuable contributions, and was a
        skillful team player.
In 1991 Terry became Editor of the Nevada Traverse, a position
he held for a record 24 years! In addition to serving as Editor,
and member of the NALS Board of Directors over the years,
Terry’s contributions have received recognition, and for this, he
was honored with numerous awards, evidencing his service to
NALS and the surveying profession. Terry, my friend, you are a
        true living legend!
